We found delivering training time-consuming and costly, especially as we had such a large number of people to train, so we decided to use e-learning as a way of providing this training.
E-learning has cost approx. £4.50 per person, in comparison face-to-face training was £6.50 per person. However, the more people we train the cheaper e-learning becomes whereas the face to face training becomes dearer.
In addition e-learning is perfect for members of staff with heavy caseloads like social workers, probation officers and health visitors. Sometimes it’s impossible for them to be released for training, e-learning allows you to do your training anytime and anywhere, leaving employers & employees to fit the training into a program that suits them best.

I was looking to identify safe and responsible online training in relation to child protection with additional support needs such as ‘Protecting Children with Disabilities’ and ‘An introduction to the Autism Spectrum’.
I found the Child Protection e-Academy on the internet and was really impressed with the wealth of online courses they offer. All are accessible via the internet and count towards CPD points.

We faced the challenge of how to deliver good quality consistent training to the wider children’s workforce. We already had well-regarded face to face courses, but we could only reach about 500 people per year.
In the five years to 2010 we trained 10,000 learners in the district; we have estimated this would have taken 20 years via a traditional method.
The unique benefit of the e-Academy model is that we have the opportunity to work with subject experts from other boards, which results in a better quality product, that builds on a much wider range of skills, knowledge and experience.
