Child Protection e-Academy helps support Waverley Care’s work with Children and Families affected by HIV and Hepatitis C

HIV and Hepatitis C both bring with them stigma and discrimination. Our donation will help support Waverly Care’s Children and Families service. The service works with both children who are affected by HIV or Hepatitis C and those who are themselves HIV positive.
The Children & Families Project provides a safe haven, where children can be themselves, meet others in a similar situation and receive support without the fear of bullying or exclusion.

HIV and Hep C stigma has a major impact on the self-confidence of a child. Much of the work centres on rebuilding self-confidence and self-esteem and helping the children to work towards a positive future.

Alison Irving of Waverley Care said “Our Children & Families Service is wholly funded by the goodwill and generosity of charitable trusts, companies and individuals. If it wasn’t for donations from companies such as the Child Protection e-Academy, we wouldn’t be able to offer the vital support that we do.”

The aims of the Children & Families Project are:

  • to provide a safe and stimulating environment for children and young people
  • to observe and listen to children and young people and support them through times of loss, separation and other life changes
  • to encourage peer and group support
  • to support parents and carers in addressing sensitive or difficult issues with their children
  • to help children meet their full potential

Charlotte Nutland, National Account Manager commented “Being able to help make a positive difference to children like these is one of the reasons we started the Child Protection e-Academy.”
